I loved reading this. The Pacific Northwest is such a special place and you’ve brought it to life so vividly. Will keep an eye out for thimbleberries if I ever have the opportunity to forage them!

Thank you I’m delighted you felt a bit of the being here…PNW is indeed special. I hope you find yourself face to face with some thimbleberries sooner than later.

I moved from the Pacific Northwest (Bainbridge Island, Washington) to the countryside in northern Slovenia and while I am in awe of nature here, I have to admit there is nothing like summer in the PNW. There is also nothing like a newborn. Beautiful read. Thank you for sharing. August excites me too - somehow it means the pressure is about to be off, even when it’s at its highest. And I know rest is near and some solitude. And a crackling fire.

Thank you, truly, for your kind words. I love your description of the pressure about to be off...and knowing the crackling hearth fire is near.

Congratulations to you all on the arrival of your new little family member! I'm in awe that you managed to carve out time to craft this beautiful post with so much to take in and imbibe at this special time. Perhaps one day the little ones will also read these words and like me, many miles away, recall the smell of the "conifer forest and sunbaked duff mixed with pine and fir terpenes wafting from needle and bark" (what a perfect description!) and cast their minds back to the days of youth. Screens can be tiresome, but offer an opportunity to connect in a way that other mediums can't. Like you I dread the heat of Summer and the encroachment of technology upon our lives, but softly embracing the Yang with the Yin is a challenge I'm learning to lean into. Thank you for sharing a piece of your world. I so enjoyed spending these few moments with you.

This was a beautiful read, congratulations on the new baby! that whole descriptive section about babies was just so perfect and brought back so many good memories.

Also been giving up the phone more and more this year, especially the social media and mindless scrolling. I was getting tired of having such a distracted mind and wondering how much my it fed my anxiety. A lot it turns out haha.

Thank you. Good for you. I often wonder how I did so much more around our place and then realize—I had no computer let alone a phone.

Thank you ☺️ Sarah,

What a heartwarming note to see first thing in the morning. I’m always honored when my writing touches someone even for a moment. And thank you for the reminder—yes that Yin and Yang of the technology and screens. Some of my sweetest friendships have been made through these screen places. 🙏
